South Africa's football captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has died after being shot, South African police say.
The incident reportedly happened at Meyiwa's girlfriend's house in Vosloorus, south of Johannesburg. The 27-year-old played for Orlando Pirates and had played in South Africa's last four Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. On Saturday, he was in action for his club, when they progressed to the semi-finals of the South African League Cup. Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town 4-1. had entered the house, around 20:00 (18:00 GMT), while a third man
remained outside. All three fled after shots were fired, in what local media reports say was an attempted burglary. A reward of about $14,000 has been offered for information leading to the suspects' arrest. Meyiwa was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. He started playing for Orlando Pirates, based in the Parktown district of Johannesburg, in 2005. "This is a sad loss whichever way you look at it, to Senzo's
family, his extended family, Orlando Pirates and to the nation.'' said

Robin van Persie's equaliser deep into injury time gave Manchester
United a point and kept Chelsea within range of their Premier League
title rivals after a dramatic Old Trafford finale.
Didier Drogba's header, glanced in off Van Persie early
in the second half, looked to have extended Chelsea's lead at the top
of the table to six points until a thunderous conclusion in front of the
Stretford End.
In scenes reminiscent of days gone by at the Theatre of
Dreams, Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic was shown a second yellow card for
a foul on Angel Di Maria as United applied late pressure.
Di Maria's resulting free-kick saw Chelsea goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois save brilliantly from Marouane Fellaini but Van Persie
was on hand to thrash home the rebound and spark wild celebrations
around Old Trafford.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho turned away in disgust as
Van Persie scored, frustrated that the victory his side deserved for
controlling long periods had slipped away in a chaotic conclusion.
The Portuguese's side remain four points clear of
second-placed Southampton - and, perhaps more significantly, six points
ahead of last season's champions Manchester City - but this is a result
that will almost have the after-taste of defeat, even though Chelsea's
unbeaten run continues.

defence, keeper Courtois was faultless. The Belgian was powerless to
prevent Van Persie's leveller.
Despite the late concession, Chelsea looked ominously powerful and carry all the hallmarks of the team to beat this season.
For United manager Louis van Gaal, there will be
pleasure in showing the resilience and fighting spirit of old to earn a
point - but also the reality that Chelsea showed him how much ground
they still have to make up, despite that £150m outlay this summer.

Diego Costa's "little chance" of playing
turned out to be no chance as his lingering hamstring strain ruled
him out while United, without suspended captain Wayne Rooney, were also
missing the injured Radamel Falcao.
The old friends, and on this day foes, Van Gaal and
Mourinho were in no mood to hold back and it was only the finishing
touches that were missing in an enthralling first half that saw chances
for both sides.
Courtois saved superbly from Van Persie after the
Dutchman was played through, and home keeper David de Gea also excelled
to save with his legs after Oscar's pass found Drogba only 12 yards out.
There was one highly contentious moment when Ivanovic
was dragged to the floor by Chris Smalling as they chased Cesc
Fabregas's delivery into the box but referee Phil Dowd gave nothing.
Chelsea increased the tempo and power at the start of
the second half and it was only another fine save from De Gea that
stopped Eden Hazard as he ran clean through and looked certain to score.
There was no let-off, though, as Drogba escaped his
marker - who mystifyingly was the diminutive Rafael - and headed in off
Van Persie at the near post. The striker's attempted headed clearance
was flimsy at best.
Drogba will hope the goal is not taken off him after
Van Persie's unwitting intervention as it will otherwise go down as his
first Premier League goal for Chelsea since he
scored against Stoke in March 2012.
Scenting the chance to kill their hosts off, Willian
forced De Gea into an athletic save and Ivanovic's bustling run into the
area ended with a shot flashed across the face of goal.
United were looking to Van Persie to create a spark but
he found Courtois in his way once more after creating space inside the
area.
Then came that Ivanovic red card, the scramble in front
of the Stretford End and United had their point courtesy of Van Persie.

the home side came out on top in a match-up between two of the world's

Real's celebrations following the 229th meeting between
the two were also heightened with the victory helping them close the
gap to one point on La Liga leaders Barcelona.
The visitors may have taken the lead but were
ultimately disappointing as they failed to match the greater cutting
edge in attack and solidity in defence of the home side as they suffered
their first league defeat of the season.

Benzema delivered a world-class performance -
scoring, hitting the woodwork and unsettling the visiting defence
throughout - to leave the pitch with his name being chanted by Real fans
for perhaps the first time.
A game between these two Spanish
giants is usually one to savour and it was even more so this time
considering the array of talent on show.
Real had Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Benzema up front, while Barcelona had Messi, Neymar and Suarez.
Suarez starting added to the spectacle as he played for
the first time since his ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio
Chiellini at the World Cup came to an end.
The Uruguayan made an immediate impact when his
crossfield pass found Neymar, and the Brazilian cut in from the left and
curled in a low shot for the opener.
The goal only served to spark Real into action during a
fast and furious opening. Barcelona keeper Claudio Bravo had not
conceded a goal in his side's eight league games prior to the match and
had to be at his best to keep his run going.
He got a left palm to a Benzema effort before the Real
Madrid forward thumped a header from Ronaldo's cross against the
woodwork and smashed the rebound wide.
Barcelona forward Neymar scored his ninth goal of the campaign with his effort against Real Madrid
The game was living up to the hype and Barcelona should
have added to their lead when Suarez sent in a low cross for Messi only
for the Argentine to uncharacteristically sidefoot wide from close
range.
However, Real were level when Gerard Pique handled a
low Marcelo cross and Ronaldo dispatched the penalty to score his 16th
league goal of the campaign.
The home side started the second half brightly and
their pressure eventually broke a vulnerable Barcelona defence when Pepe
powered in a header from a corner.
The goal gave Los Blancos a firm grip of the game as
they sat back and comfortably soaked up Barcelona's pressure, while
continually hitting the Catalan club on the break.
And, when Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta lost
possession on the halfway line, Real lethally struck for their third.
Isco, Ronaldo and Rodriguez combined before the latter slid a pass
through to Benzema, who angled in a precise shot.
Barcelona never looked like engineering a way back into
the game and even Messi struggled to make an impact as he and his
team-mates were well-marshalled by deserved winners Real.

Pistorius was cleared of murder but convicted him of culpable homicide

African athlete Oscar Pistorius is set to discover whether he faces a
prison term for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Judge Thokozile Masipa has heard the prosecution call for a
minimum 10-year sentence, against a defence argument for community
service and house arrest.
Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide but cleared of murder.
On the eve of sentencing, Pistorius's siblings criticised the "twisted" and "sensationalised" media coverage.
His sister Aimee and brother Carl told a South African broadcaster the facts had been "twisted and manipulated". 'Lot of anxiety'
Pistorius, 27, an amputee sprinter who became the first athlete to compete in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, killed Ms Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year.
He says he shot her by mistake, fearing there was an intruder in his house in the capital, Pretoria.
Ms Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model, reality TV star and law
graduate, was hit three times by bullets fired by Pistorius through a
toilet door.
On the eve of the sentencing, the Pistorius family said there was "a lot of anxiety" as the sentencing approached
Last month, Judge Masipa cleared Pistorius of murder, but convicted him of culpable homicide, saying he had been negligent.
The high-profile, seven-month trial has captured public attention in South Africa and beyond.
There is no legal limit on the length of a jail term, but
experts say the typical maximum sentence for culpable homicide is around
15 years.
However, even after the sentence is announced in Pretoria, the case may not be over.
Both the prosecution and the defence have the right to appeal against the verdict.

'No closure'
On the eve of sentencing, Pistorius's sister, Aimee, told
South African broadcaster eNCA there was "obviously a lot of anxiety"
ahead of the sentencing, and that the past 20 months had been "very
taxing".
She said she felt "heartache for both my brother, our family and of course [Reeva] Steenkamp's family and her friends".
Both families would struggle to move on, she said.
"It's something that you never really get closure on... It's
something that my brother will carry with him for the rest of his life.
"It is important for us that [Ms Steenkamp's family] know
that she was very much cared for and loved, and accepted as part of our
family in the short time that she was with us... [Reeva] had a wonderful
charisma and zest for life that she just exuded and it was easy to just
fall in love with her.
